Extra Ordinary Ministers of Communion

‘Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day.’ (John 6: 53-54)

Overview
The EMC (Extraordinary Ministers of Communion) ministry is made up of parishioners who have been appointed to serve after a period of reflection and discernment. We take up the role of serving in the Eucharistic celebrations on Sundays, weekdays, Holy days of obligation and major feast days.

Historically, the ministry was formed in 1992 with just 4 male members. This continued to be so until 2006 when the first ladies were appointed to the ministry. To date, the membership stands at 51.

Our Vision
"To deepen our understanding of the Eucharist, so that we can authentically celebrate the love of the Lord."

Role of EMC in the Parish
Members of the ministry are required to serve in the following ways:

  • To assist the celebrant in the distribution of Holy Communion during Eucharistic celebrations
  • To bring Holy Communion to the sick and invalid (at home or in hospitals);
  • To conduct adoration sessions for the catechism children from Primary 1 to Confirmation 4 levels;
  • To facilitate the First Holy Communion programme to prepare the children of Primary 3 level towards receiving their First Holy Communion; and
  • To organise and conduct parish related activities as assigned.

Members are also expected to expand and deepen their spiritual life, knowledge and faith through participation in formation programmes such as bible studies, workshops, retreats, evangelisation, fellowship with other ministries, etc.
