2023 Feast Day Celebrations

Towards Being a Welcoming Family

The church’s Feast Day is a time to thank the Lord for the gift of our church and for the gift of our patron saint, St Anthony of Padua.  St Anthony is most often known as the finder of lost things but he was so much more. He was known for his holiness and his closeness to the Infant Jesus, a closeness depicted in many statues of the saint. St Anthony was a well known preacher and in his time he spoke out against the heretics, earning himself the moniker, ‘Hammer of the Heretics.’  St Anthony’s impact was so great that the Church honors him with the title, ‘Doctor of the Church.’

The Church of St Anthony has its roots in Mandai as a ‘kampung’ or village church. In those days, the church was a close knit community, like one big family. For the 2023 Feast Day celebrations, we have adopted the theme ‘Towards being a Welcoming Family.” This theme affirms what we want to be as church. We explore this theme through the Triduum and the Feast Day masses as we look into how we can be welcoming as individuals, as marriages, as families and as church – the family of families.

9-Week Novena to St Anthony

Our celebrations begin with a 12-week Novena to St Anthony on Apr 11 and ending on Jun 6, 2023. The novena is after 6.30 PM mass on Tuesdays and usually starts at around 7.00 PM.

Triduum

The 3-day Triduum starts on Wednesday, Jun 7 and ends on Friday, Jun 9. Each mass will be preceded by the devotion to St Anthony at around 7.30 PM. Monsignor Ambrose Vaz will preside over the Triduum masses and speak about how we can be welcoming as individuals, in our marriages and families. To encourage our parishioners to stay back and mingle as a family, light refreshments and drinks will be available after each Triduum mass.

  • DAY 1 : 7 June, 8.00 PM – The Welcoming Individual
  • DAY 2 : 8 June, 8.00 PM – The Welcoming Marriage
  • DAY 3 : 9 June, 8.00 PM – The Welcoming Family

Feast Day Procession and Mass

The Feast Day Procession and Mass will take place on Jun 10, 2023 at 5.00 PM. As a contingency against wet weather, the procession will begin in the church hall and proceed down the ramp to Level 1 before circling back around the building, past the grotto and back into church for Mass. If it rains, the statue will remain in church and the procession will be canceled. Mass will then start right away. The theme for this Mass is, ‘Towards a Welcoming Church,’ which builds on the themes of the Triduum Masses.

After the mass on Jun 10, those with bus tickets to the Feast Day Dinner venue should board (tickets are required for boarding) their buses parked next to the Church  by 6.30 PM.

Feast Day Dinner

For the first time in over two years, we are once again able to meet as one big community for the 2023 Feast Day Dinner. Sales of dinner tickets (priced at $65/pax) will be available starting from Apr 22, 2023 at the Sunset Mass until Jun 3, 2023 or when the tickets sell-out, which ever comes first. Sales will be before and after all weekend masses. Our dinner programs are always fun and entertaining and will show case the top 2-3 performers from our talent search. Of course, there will be prizes to give away. The venue is close to the Yio Chu Kang MRT station (NS15) but for those who prefer to travel by bus, there will be a limited number of bus tickets on sale that will bring our diners from church to the restaurant and back. The 2-way ticket is just $5 per person. Passengers must board the bus at our Church by 6.30 PM with their tickets.

Feast Day Funfair

The funfair is another long-time feature of our celebrations that was not possible for the last two feast days. This year, the funfair will be on Sunday, Jun 11 from 8.00 AM to 1.00 PM. There will be lots to do for our parishioners and visitors no matter their age. Please watch for the start of our coupon sales about two weeks before Jun 11.

Jun 13

As the Feast Day has been transferred to Jun 10, the mass on Jun 13 will be the usual weekday mass at 6.30 PM.
